Project Overview: The overall implementation project covers an area of approximately 1747.4 square meters, located on the 5th floor of a 15-story building, with a total building height of 65.4m and a floor height of 3.8m. This project includes: synthesis R&D laboratory system, instrument analysis laboratory system, water-based resin R&D laboratory system, electrochemistry R&D laboratory system, salt spray laboratory system, water curtain laboratory system, reagent and hazardous chemical reagent storage system, and supporting office, meeting, and display auxiliary areas, etc. Professional content includes the laboratory area and auxiliary areas: maintenance structure system, HVAC and ventilation system, automation system, electrical system, special gas centralized supply system, water supply and drainage system, laboratory furniture system (including self-compensating ventilation cabinet system and experimental tables, etc.), fire protection system equipment procurement and installation.

Limitations of the original building on site
Ingenious solutions to solve problems

The original building presented many challenges to the project. On the one hand, the location of the exhaust pipe shaft in the original building is fixed, and the exhaust equipment and risers are reused. Not only is the exhaust volume fixed, but the operating noise is also extremely high, with initial on-site measurements reaching around 90dB, which greatly affects the normal operation of the laboratory and the comfort of personnel.

 

To address this issue, we adopted a dual noise reduction scheme:

A silencer and static pressure box was added to the outlet of the pipe shaft to effectively reduce noise transmission.

At the same time, another layer of sound insulation treatment was added to the outside of the static pressure box to further block noise, creating a quiet environment for the laboratory.

 

On the other hand, this building has cantilever structures on all sides from the fifth floor, and this project is located on the fifth floor, resulting in many shear walls and building structural columns around, which makes space planning inconvenient.

 

We cleverly utilized this feature, dividing the space into small areas according to the layout of the shear walls, which are used as auxiliary functional areas such as reagent and hazardous chemical reagent storage, gas cylinder rooms, explosion-proof rooms, and storage rooms, making full use of the space while meeting the various functional needs of the laboratory.

Strictly prevent the spread of foul odors

Chemical synthesis three rooms will conduct chemical experiments that produce foul-smelling gases. If not handled properly, the spread of odors will affect the entire laboratory environment.

 

We have taken a series of strict measures:

HVAC uses a fresh air system to ensure continuous renewal of indoor air.

The existing exhaust equipment is independently planned to serve the chemical synthesis three rooms to ensure that foul odors can be specifically treated.

The room is designed as a negative pressure laboratory to prevent odor leakage using pressure difference.

The maintenance structure uses color-coated steel plates to ensure airtightness, and the door uses medical airtight doors to further enhance the isolation effect.

III. Exhaust and Energy Consumption: Balancing Needs and Energy Saving

 

Laboratories have high exhaust requirements, which means that foreseeable operating energy consumption will be high. Balancing exhaust requirements and energy saving is key.

 

Our solutions are as follows:

Self-compensating ventilation cabinets are used to improve exhaust efficiency while reducing energy consumption.

The HVAC system uses personnel fresh air + multi-unit system, and uses variable frequency equipment to adjust the operating power according to actual needs, effectively reducing energy consumption.
